Netflix is looking to replicate the success of Taylor Sheridan's Western drama Yellowstone with a new ranching drama titled Ransom Canyon. The streaming service has ordered 10 episodes of the show, which is based on Jodi Thomas' book series. Ransom Canyon will follow the lives of three ranching families in the Texas Hill Country, featuring conflicts between generations and neighbors, but with a greater emphasis on romance.
Netflix's Head of Drama, Development Jinny Howe described it as a "contemporary Western romance show" that offers a beautiful and escapist setting. The show will star Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly in the lead roles, and will be directed by Amanda Marsalis. Ransom Canyon aims to capture the interest of Yellowstone fans while delivering its own unique blend of storytelling.
