Bridgerton fans can mark their calendars as the release dates for season 3 have been unveiled, confirming an unintentional leakage. Observant followers on social media were quick to notice that the official Bridgerton account, previously known as Twitter, had changed its header, inadvertently revealing that the upcoming season would be split into two parts. Part 1 is set to premiere on May 16, 2024, followed by Part 2 on June 13, 2024.
However, the jubilation was short-lived as the header was promptly modified, leaving fans to wonder whether it was an accidental slip-up, a clever marketing strategy, or a disregard for their loyalty. The speculations came to an end the following day when Netflix dropped an announcement trailer for season 3, formally confirming the authenticity of the revealed dates.
Devoted fans of the show will have endured a lengthy wait of over two years since the release of Bridgerton season 2 on March 25, 2022.
The previous rumors suggesting a December release for season 3 were debunked by Adjoa Andoh, who portrays Lady Danbury, during an interview in October. However, attention is now directed towards Netflix after Andoh disclosed that season 3 had been ready for release for quite some time. While it is plausible that the May 2024 premiere date for Bridgerton season 3 is an attempt to mitigate any potential impact from production delays caused by industry strikes, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos stated earlier this month that the strikes had minimal effect on their ability to deliver content to customers.
It is worth noting that Netflix also adopted a divided approach with another successful series, The Crown, by releasing the second part on December 14.
Apart from the protracted wait, fans will also have to come to terms with the absence of Phoebe Dynevor, who portrayed the character Daphne. A CBR feature proposes various ways in which Bridgerton season 3 can effectively handle Daphne's departure, one of which involves granting other characters a similar prominence.
For instance, the article suggests that the focus could shift to characters like Benedict, giving them an opportunity to shine just as Daphne did in season 2. Penelope and Colin, affectionately known as Polin, will take center stage in season 3, and early glimpses of their love story were unveiled in images released in June.
Bridgerton can be streamed on Netflix, which currently offers all seasons of the show.
Jess Brownell has taken over as the showrunner, succeeding Chris Van Dusen. Brownell is not a newcomer to the series, having worked on multiple episodes, and has a longstanding collaboration with Shonda Rhimes. Netflix describes Bridgerton as a tale following the lives of the close-knit Bridgerton siblings as they navigate the search for love and happiness within high society in London. The show is inspired by Julia Quinn's bestselling novels.
